The upcoming expansion to Final Fantasy XIV , titled Evercold , is very heavily themed after Norse mythology, and curious players have already combed through the various trailers and locale teasers for theories about how the game will integrate familiar elements from Norse stories of old.

But then, during today’s Tokyo Fan Festival keynote, Director/Producer Yoshi-P mentioned that players may be fighting foes like what we see onscreen…and then dropped the above image, with no further context.

It’s not unheard of that a Norse-themed expansion would feature the vague concept of “valkyries”, female fighters of legend who return from the afterlife to continue to do glorious battle, but this is no generic image of a female warrior – this is Lenneth, the main heroine of the original Valkyrie Profile title.
